Neurons or nerve cells are cells of the nervous system that transmit nerve impulses coming from sensory cells or from other nerve cells.

Signals between neurons occur via synapses, specialized connections with other cells. Neurons are the core components of the nervous system, which includes the brain, and spinal cord of the central nervous system (CNS), and the ganglia of the peripheral nervous system.
